Join us for the 17th annual Willie Stargell Celebrity Invitational

Willie “Pops” Stargell, nicknamed “Pops” later in his career, spent 21 seasons in Major League Baseball as a left fielder and first baseman. The seven-time All Star was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1988. But when kidney disease claimed his life at age 61, it was more important to his wife Margaret for her husband to be remembered for the incredible human being he was off the field than for the great baseball player he was, as she knew his incredible baseball career would forever be covered by Major League Baseball, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

After Willie’s passing, his family’s desire was to honor him beyond baseball ,and that interest led to the inception of the Willie Stargell Foundation in 2003. Our mission is in honoring the legacy of Willie Stargell by giving hope through research, patient care and treatment for those living with kidney disease.

Our Foundation’s largest event is the Willie Stargell Celebrity Invitational golf tournament. The 17th Annual Willie Stargell Celebrity Invitational is scheduled for Friday, November 8th – Sunday, November 10th at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, North Carolina.

A few of the big names scheduled to participate in this year’s event are Josh Bell, first baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Slam Dunk Contest winner and retired NBA pointguard, Spud Webb, Luis Clemente, President of the Roberto Clemente Foundation and son of the late baseball great, Roberto Clemente, and many more athletes and other celebrities.

Join us for a fun-filled weekend with a Sponsor/ Celebrity Reception, Auction Dinner & Dance and a Golf Invitational with celebrities as we raise funds in our fight against kidney disease!
